Renaissance Globe Event: Ivory, Shell & Silk
Family Friendly / Drop-in
Families were welcomed to the globe activity by volunteers, where they had an opportunity to visit handling table featuring objects made of ivory, shell and silk. The objects included shell jewellery, an ivory needle case in the shape of a parasol, spun silk, a silk moth cocoon, and a purse made of silk and velvet.
Visitors were then asked to explore the Museum and find objects made of either ivory, shell or silk, drawing and labelling their finds. These pictures were then hung around the frame of the globe – adding to similar drawings made in previous sessions – and families were invited to decorate the frame with fabrics.
