Visiting as a group

All groups visiting the Museum must book in advance, even for self-guided visits.

Important information

  • We consider groups to be:
    • any group of 15 people or more, or
    • any number of people visiting the Museum as part of a school, university, community group, or other organisation
  • All groups must book in advance
  • We need at least 5 working days notice for group bookings
  • We charge a £50 administration fee for each group booking. Self-guided groups visiting from primary, secondary or further education organisations may be exempt from paying this fee and should follow the booking instructions in the relevant section below.
  • If your group is bigger than 15 people you will need to make more than one booking and split into groups of 15 or less during your visit
  • We will turn away groups that do not have a booking
  • We will turn away groups that have not paid the correct administration fee
  • Please bring your confirmation email with you
  • You can enquire about a group booking using our enquiry form (this is an enquiry only, it can't guarantee admission)
  • Group leaders must supervise their groups at all times
  • For students under 18 years old, each group of 15 must contain one adult
  • We will turn away groups of students without adequate supervision

Specific groups

We welcome organised visits from summer schools and groups of EFL students. All groups should book in advance.

As with all groups, we charge a £50 administration fee per group booking. The maximum number of people per booking is 15. If your group is bigger than 15 you will need to make more than one booking. You will also need to split into groups of 15 or less during your visit.

For students under 18 years old, each group of 15 must contain one adult. We will turn away groups of students without adequate supervision.

We encouage using our collections as a teaching resource for primary, secondary and further education groups. We offer an exemption from our administration fee for self-guided groups using the collections as part of a learning programme. All groups visiting the Museum must book in advance.
