Shape and Number
Session outline
This session supports learning in ‘mathematics’ and ‘understanding of the world’ in the EYFS Statutory Framework. Children practice their counting skills by singing songs relating to objects in the Museum, such as our wonderful puffer fish and grandfather clock. They also become ‘shape explorers’ hunting for 2D and 3D shapes (depending on age) in the galleries of the museum. Making simple shape hats with Lewis the Puppet gives children the opportunity to practice using mathematical vocabulary and to name shapes.
This session is also a great introduction to museums. Ours is one of the oldest public museum buildings in the world (built in 1763!) and a magical setting for exploration.
